The Gift of Giving

A great gift is the gift of giving. Being able to give means that you have and plenty of people have so little. Saveone.net (at the top click "Take Action" then click "Give" to see the options available) is an organization that aides in helping those globally who are less fortunate. When my woman told me about the site I thought that it was great that you could help directly change someones life. Tomorrow I plan to buy a goat and water tablets to give families clean water and food to eat. As you look around and truly realize all that you have, just know that there are millions of people that have far less.

Stoney River Legendary Steaks

Never heard of the place, so when you hear Legendary Steaks you have to see how it is. The service was great. Zach (the waiter) was on top of his A game...refills, fresh bread, and (for Craig) steak sauce. Usually the standard house bread is a flip of the coin and could go either way, but the bread here is outstanding! Plus, it is served with cinnamon butter...amazing. The steak here isn't better than Ruth Chris but it is pretty good. One in Towson and one in Annapolis. Check it out.

Movie Review: Black Swan

This movie ends up being a literal interpretation of the play Swan Lake. And after about an hour into the film you realize that this chick is nuts! At the end of the movie you end up asking yourself "How much of that was real???" Natalie Portman plays Nina Sayer a 28 year old ballet dancer. The best dancer at the company, Beth played by Winona Ryder, gets retired from the company because of her age. Nina is driven to become the lead in the new season of The Black Swan. Her POV is so skewed and her demeanor is so shy, quiet and meek that you are really just trying to keep in perspective what the hell is going on. It's a trippy psycho - drama that's a bit too long for my taste. The only thing that barely keeps my attention is the training that the actors had to go through to learn the intricate ballet moves and routines. There is an interesting sex scene between Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman that is pretty cool but not dope enough to save the movie.

MOVIE REVIEW: GUN

50 Cent is a film star if you didn't notice. 50 plays along side Val Kilmer in GUN as a street gun dealer aiming for more. Val Kilmer's character has just been released from prison and is looking for work. 50 has cornered the market as the city's biggest arms dealer and is about to go to the next level. This was a good movie. And the biggest gun I have ever seen was used by 50 in the climatic shoot out scene. This was a pretty good movie. 50 is really becoming a solidified actor and has made more money acting in about 2 years than most rapper/actors ever.

Movie Review : Wall Street - Money Never Sleeps

This movie is a lot less devious than they made it seem in the trailers. Nonetheless its still pretty low down. It's a tale of revenge and power. Michael Douglas' character Gordon Gecko returns home from jail with nothing and is sort of befriended by his daughters boyfriend Jake played Shia LaBeouf. Jake wants revenge on a rival for the kinda death of his mentor and Gordon has the inside scoop. They play around with 100 Million dollars for about 2/3's of the film the love story the reconcile then it ends. You know though, this movie could have been better I'm just not so sure how. The money and seeing how money flows in the World is inspiring, the acting was good it was just missing something that made it special. Sidenote: The Barton Perreira glasses that Douglas had on in the film were amazing!

This is a sequel in a way, but it isn't a movie that you have to see the first one to get and it doesn't make you want to see the first one. I'm OK with not seeing the first movie even if I should, even if it's better than this one.

The "This Guy Is Trippin'" Award Goes Too --- Araab Musik

Check the Interview

Dipset's 3rd string (that's right I said it) producer Araab Musik is apparently known for his impressive (yet uninspiring) movements on the MPC (midi production center). He basically does it like a drummer doing a solo but only he uses the sampling machine.

He is now claiming that Kanye "stole" his style during the VMA's when he used the MPC during his performance???!!! Que? This claim has me and a lot of other ppl baffled. Kanye was not merely banging on the MPC making garage band sounds. He performed his song on his MPC that HE created it with.

That's like saying Travis Barker stole ?uestlove's style because he is a drummer with a unique hairstyle. Or saying Brittney Spear's stole Madonna's style because she sold sexuality.

GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE WITH THAT BULLSHIT!

Homeboy is tired of cashing them Dipset checks and wants some other paper. I hear you but this is the wrong kind of attention and its based off of foolishness. Plus the VMA's was all the way in the Summer...why did it take this long for dude to speak up??? Cause somebody is gassing homeboy up. Too bad his beats are wack maybe he coulda made a come up.

NEW MUSIC: DRAG Vs. LMS

The late 90's Rap Group from Baltimore - LMS consisting of Erik Nell, Forbidden & Blax - had a string of underground hits, "Pure Necessities", "Harm City Slaughter" and later "Eclipse."
I remember listening to Rap Attack (when it was still came on in the morning) hearing their songs and I even bought the single on cassette. They were a solid group with good records but never released an album. Through some searching (thanks to Beat Connexion) I found the instrumental version of these songs. I had the idea to mix my vocals and re- create the sound of their original instrumental and also attempt to merge their vocals into the re-created production that I constructed. This is DRAG vs. LMS.

Movie: HOLY ROLLERS

Based on True Events, this film is fun for awhile. Hasidic Jews moving Ecstasy Pills overseas...whats not fun about that?? Jesse Eisenberg plays a 20 year old Hasidic Jewish kid who isn't happy with the life that is planned for him. He works for his father at a fabric shop. He is good with numbers but doesn't get to use his knowledge of math much. His best friend lives next door and they are both studying to be Rabbis. His friends older brother asks if he wants a job in the medicine field. Soon he figures out that it isn't medicine but is comforted once he learns that he is working for Jews. But as all things, soon comes the downside as his world comes crashing down. Q-Tip shows up as a drug dealer in Amsterdam. Good Movie. Crumby ending (but real). Stop Snitching.

N*E*R*D - NOTHING

N*E*R*D's new album NOTHING is pretty DOPE. It's not the best N*E*R*D album but their consistency and production keeps growing and getting better. Pharrell's vocal ranges and harmonies are better too. Some of the songs still suffer from various schizophrenic moments of confusion where you wish that it would either stay one way or the other, instead of spiraling into a clash of sounds. "Help Me" is currently my favorite.

UnderCovers -- Cancelled

Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw starred in the NBC spy drama UnderCovers. The story line was ok, but the dialogue was pretty bad and Hoyt the assistant tech nerd was very annoying. The show could have had a chance simply if it were better. I think the creator J.J. Abrams (of LOST, ALIAS, Cloverfield and Star Trek fame) was just banking on Black people being happy about a Black Spy show. Such was not the case. NBC isn't really the right channel for that sort of thing either so that was against them as well. If on the CW, or even FOX I think the show would have stood a better chance. The show was cancelled so they say because they weren't getting enough young viewers. I just don't think it caught peoples attention's after they saw the first two episodes. It was kinda crappy. Make a better show, get better ratings (not always true!)

TV Show: The Walking Dead

AMC is kicking ass in original TV series' at the moment. The Walking Dead opened with a great 1st episode. A Sheriff of a town in Georgia gets shot by fleeing criminals and taken to the hospital where he falls into a coma, only to wake up in a world over run with ZOMBIES!! I love a good Zombie feature so I'm pretty much all for this show to be great. The show gets to key points pretty quickly and doesn't drag things out of a season or 6 episodes down the line. A few things have sorta confused me through the first 3 episodes.

Spoiler Alert!!!

If wild escaping Hicks are shooting at you and you get shot, why would you take your vest off?? (In fact in most movies when people get shot why do they take of their vest right after??)

It was never fully explained how long he was in a coma in the hospital. Additionally, Zombies got into the hospital so why didn't they kill him?

When these guys put the guts on them to blend in...it would just so happen to pour down raining right?

Why did the Deputy Sheriff have to disarm the car alarm. Wouldn't the Sheriff had thought to do that??

Why have so many changes of heart about a guy that was about to kill everybody??
Funny how the dude knocks over the tool bag and drops the handcuff key down this mysterious drain pipe in one graceful dumbass fall. But the guy can now reach the hacksaw and cuts his hand off??!! But it was only one way off the roof, so how did he actually get away??

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With all that being said it is a pretty decent show. I just hope that it becomes a bit more complex as the show develops.
Due Date
From the same Director that made The Hangover, here comes Due Date. Basically its some crap. The funniest moments are in the trailer. Every other moment in this film is not even smile worthy. Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galafianakis play passengers going cross country that get kicked off a plane. So due to happenstance they travel together cross country and silliness ensues. Its definitely a rent it movie. The director said he wanted to make a more mature comedy than The Hangover, but this just wasn't funny at all.
Rise and Fall of Allen Iverson
I would say that no other Basketball player has had a bigger impact on culture then Allen Iverson. No not even Jordan. Jordan was the greatest player but you couldn't really relate to him. Allen Iverson is the reason everybody is tattooed up. Allen Iverson was the reason guys had cornrows. He changed the style of the black youth in America. He was a good player with great drive and passion. So its sad to see him playing in Turkey for 2 years for 4 million knowing that he lost millions of dollars and a chance to play in the NBA. Stefan Marbury is a nutcase and I could care less about him having to play overseas. But AI...The Answer!! Man this one is pretty sad.
This is the most solid body of work Ogun has put out to date! The original songs that he has up to this point would make a great album ("GO LONG" better be on there!!!). From running around with him and Street on a mini tour of sorts, I've heard a few of these songs during the performances. And finally getting to hear a CDQ version of Stardom! Real Life is dope....the song and the beat...produced by Traum. Goon's verse on Why You Acting...dope. That B A-A-A-A-A-A L-T-I! that should be an anthem. Restaurant Round Up --- Rub and Andy Nelson's
Me and my brother Mark Shotta enjoy food! So we are always on the look out for new and great cuisine. Unfortunately we run into some bad spots along the way, enter "Rub." Placed at the very edge of Light St, this joint isn't as sparkling as the marque advertises. The water was served in Ball Mason jars which was pretty cool, but when asked for a Arnold Palmer (half n half for all you common folk!) it was super bitter and not mixed properly. The food arrived and the Macaroni and cheese tasted like it was straight out of a box! The meat was dry and just not seasoned well. One redeeming quality was the Sweet Potato Fries. They were crisp, well seasoned and flavorful.
Another spot myself and my bro encountered was Andy Nelson's. Named and owned by a former Baltimore Colts Football Player, Andy Nelson's serves up great down home style BBQ. The service was fast! The food was moist, flavorful and just delicious. I don't even like corn in my cornbread but this stuff was great! The chicken fell off the bone as soon as I picked it up! I only got the pit beef because they were out of Beef Brisket at that time. But I must say that it was paper thin and super moist. The only annoyance was the flies! It's kind of an indoor outdoor establishment so the flies get in pretty easy. Next time I'll just get it to go.
The Social Network
This is the story of the birth of Facebook and the death of friendships. This movie is shot brilliantly and the dialogue is Gilmore Girl-esque but not as annoying. What I like about the film is that its oddly so current. The movie opens in 2003 and follows Mark Zuckerburg's journey into becoming a Billionaire. It involves blatant (although much better received and way wider thinking) idea theft, alienation, a crazy Asian chick, the guy that started Napster, and ALOT of Lawyers. It's hip, it moves fast and its educational. I learned about the guy that started Victoria's Secret (SAD). The lighting of the club that displayed on Justin Timberlake's face during the aforementioned scene wonderfully makes him look sinister and devilish. Very smart! Good real life movie.
50 Cent sorta stars in the Joel Schumacher film Twelve. Twelve is the new drug on the street and 50's character sells it. Chase Crawford plays the main character who sells marijuana to the kids at school that he dropped out of. The movie is really about these character's personal struggles dealing with being young, desperate and trying to fit in. Some are deep and personal some are shallow and sad. The last 15 minutes of the movie really take the cake though. Classic case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people.
The groans heard across the movie theatre at the end of this trailer when the "deep voice man" said "M. Night Shyamalan," was pretty priceless. I have only heard groans in a theatre twice. Once for the Action Drama Vantage Point where a bunch of flash backs pretty much drove the audience insane and this trailer. The movie turns out to be a guessing game of "Who Done It?" (But it seems pretty apparent who it is) 5 or 6 people get trapped on an elevator together and start dying one by one. As the Police and the not so bright building staff try to free these people from the elevator. The films not bad. Filled with morality, religion, and faith. And its not long!!!
First of all whats the point of working (there) with all that money? Your co-workers aren't going to respect you, the job might not let you come back ...too much risk...which then could possibly turn into a law suit for her for them not letting her back. This seems super silly to me. You have made more money then you ever could working there in 10 lifetimes what's the point? Find something more useful to do with your life! Me and my bro Mark Shotta were instantly blown away and wished that it was an actual film, and now it is. This movie is star studded and over the top, just like the 80's theme it was aimed for. Danny Trejo plays Machete and his arch rival is a Drug boss named Torrez played by Steven Seagal! I mean it's nudity (not from Jessica Alba or Michelle Rodriguez) guns and humor all in one film. Lindsay Lohan is in it as a party girl turned gun toting Nun! And she was naked (maybe)! This movie is just a good time. And watch as the old box BMW turns into a new Mercedes in the next shot.
