Nova Starz - Dark Lovely Places...for the #Ragers

The songstress Nova Starz releases her EP Dark Lovely Places...for the #Ragers .  Completely produced by Street Scott this EP is a journey.  It takes you musically to no place that a singer locally has gone.  Its a completely different feel then anything that you are used to.  There is a video coming soon for one of my favorite songs, Not Surprised.

This starts Local Music Week on this blog.  As a note I will not place any personal feelings towards the music that I post.  This is only to serve as a chance to see what Baltimore's hip-hop scene has to offer.  I hope you check out some people that you might not normally...it's free!

New Mixtape : Jae Poet - FreeFaller

Jae Poet's new mixtape is out NOW and here is the description that sets the tone for the album.

Description: Baltimore artist, Jae Poet (T.A.G.M.G.), makes London the setting for this mixed genre album. The sound he describes as "Beautiful Destruction" fits with the beautiful yet airy architecture of this setting. It is from the top floor of a hotel, that Jae Poet speaks of and elaborates on his interesting perspective on growth. This entire project was mixed, mastered, and arranged entirely by Jae Poet himself. He also uses mostly his own production on FreeFaller, being accompanied by very talented producers within his own circle. (i.e. Mark Shotta, Drag, Keishh, D. Bennett, and Ze. As far as features go, Jae still didn't have to go far to get an awesome cast like Jase, Rickie Jacobs, Nova Starz, DJ Craigo Gettems, Drag, Kay Lewis, and Jocelyn Smith. This 60 minutes goes from raw hip hop to wherever his imagination lands. Enjoy.

Amy Winehouse

Over the weekend singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her home in the UK. This unfortunate event was the ending to an up and down career. Throughout her music she expressed her life. Her real life. And in that you could see the trouble that she made into beautiful music.

Jay - Z x Kanye West - OTIS

I mean damn. Half of thee appeal though is because the sample is so familiar. Try A Little Tenderness by Otis Redding. You've heard it a million times I swear. Jay kills it with "I invented swag." For me the song could truthfully end there. This song is full of quotables! Watch the Throne! Aug 1st - 5th. It'll be epic. Currently the live version with Funk Master Flex screaming wild and talking reckless is my favorite version. People keep saying that Kanye is going to mess the album up. You've got to be kidding! This is the new Biggie and Jay-Z. This is Brooklyn's Finest thee album. Kanye is the outrageous to Jay's wit and insight. It's the perfect balance. If you don;t get it....you never will!

Baltimore's Very Own

Baltimore's Very Own is a music blog that highlights artists in/from Baltimore and surrounding areas. With multiple posts a week from artists newest music, this blog gives a great scope on the scene. Being only a one man operation I honestly have no clue how he listens to that much music...(without going crazy)! All artists should be thankful when bloggers show love and appreciation for the craft.

Ke$ha Mary j Blige Mash Up = Ke$ha J Blige

For whatever reason I was walking up the steps a few Saturdays ago and Mary J Blige's "Real Love" started playing in my head over Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" record. I don't know why it did but it sounded pretty in awesome in my head. So i made it happen. Then I figured why not make a few more songs to make it a EP. So about a week later this is thee outcome, 4 songs 1 mix let's go! DJ Draggy Fresh!

Lupe Fiaco - Lasers

This is indeed a FIASCO! I had been seeing the chatter on the internets about how bad this album was. But as a true listener, student of music and fan of Lu I purchase Lasers ( I mean it's called Lasers -- that's a kick ass title.) The build up was epic. His fans rally for him get a petition signed for the label to let him release music. A few days go pass and Lupe takes a photo with a person from the label as if things are good to go.

The single comes out --- "The Show Goes On" produced by Kane beats. COOL! Dope message in the lyrics the beat is more bells and whistles then I'm used to from Lu but is nice. Another song hits the net. "Words I Should've Said" ILL!! Tells why he didn't vote for Obama and a host of other issues --- its deep! So now I'm listening to the album and its pretty bad. Trey Songz?? I fuck with Trigga and they are label mates and what have you but this is just wrong. The lyrics aren't bad the beat isn't bad it's just a bad combination ( sorry Street). And unfortunately the whole album pretty much plays this way. Very bad mixes of odd beats to good lyrics.

But where this really falls short are the songs that are very forced. These songs sound like reference tracks for another artist. Not Lupe though. I mean this is just bizarre. I am not all the way mad at him though. The machine needs its money and it's stars and he still pretty much said fuck the label on a couple tracks on the album so you can feel where he is coming from. This is one of those Prince, SLAVE on the face moments. Hopefully Lu can bounce back and make another classic with producers that we the fans have actually heard of and songs that we and Lupe actually enjoy.

New Music: Jae Poet - UNTITLED

Poet is always on his grind I mean always and he never sits down when he comes to my house...but that's is besides the point. The kid always has some good music coming and he just keeps getting better and better. One of his previous CD's Therapy was brilliant and Dig It Or Get Buried was a dope tape too...but this...for it to be mostly industry tracks is f'ing crazy. The boy sounds hungry on here. I love it. T.A.G!
