New Music: Baltimore Beat Bangers Vol.1

Imahj of Wisdom Court Ent. has put together a great compilation of the City's most talented producers..and yup...I'm on it...along with some of this City's greats and new talent. This CD showcases Imahj, Banga Bill, Ms. Tris Beats, Street Scott, Skarr Akbar and more. Imahj tagged all the beats pretty perfectly to the point where its not annoying and you can still hear the beat. A little birdie told me part 2 is on the way.

Dom Kennedy

Why the crap wasn't I listening to Dom earlier??!! Homie from that Left Coast sounds like a Westside Drake without the singing and super emo attitude. From the Westside With Love is 16 songs of excellence. There is only about 1 song I would skip on future listens. I like his perspective, flow and wordplay. Dude nice P.B.P!

T.A. FAM Channel Q has given his lastest offering Best Of Channel Q vol.2. He produced 5 songs on the CD and homeboy spitting. His punch lines are pretty eye brow raising at times, delivery is smooth and he has a good rap voice.

Chip Tha Ripper - The Cleveland Show

Even though the character drawn on the car looks suspect ( uncross your cartoon legs and take off that weird ring...who approved that??) Cleveland rapper Chip tha Ripper may have created near Drake like buzz around his mixtape. Buzz yes ....after effect not the same though. Chip's voice sounds like Biggie's, but he rhymes like a slower Bone Thug N Harmony member / Kid Cudi / somebody else but not that important. The mixtape is good...but it suffers from too many damn songs. It has 27 tracks -- thats like a double disc!! It's all original tracks, but after about the 14th song I need a break. 10 of those songs could be taken off of this and it could be repackaged as an actual album in stores and be pretty decent. My favorite tracks are the collab between Curren$y, Big Sean and Chuck Inglish (on the beat) "Fat Raps" everybody goes hard on this! "Dear Hip-Hop" ft. Naledge and 6th Sense is another banger. The absolute gem on this CD (well at least to me) is "Whaddup Bum" this is a stand out and if he can make songs of this caliber for an album I'll be a fan.

Dre Babes

The homie Dre has been on his grind as of late, doing shows and doing features. He dropped this mixtape a few weeks ago and it features guest spots and production from Street Heat.

Clay, NOVA and Twin also make appearances. I know DJ BooMan flipped one of Dre's songs (still waiting for my joint to get done BooMan...) but I'm not sure if its on the CD. Oh yeah and I killed the cover!! Cover game is sick!!

A few months ago the homie Articulate released #musicmonday (please RT) the mixtape. This offer features guest appearances from Wordsmith, Black Knight, PenDragon, Bex, Rickie Jacobs, Sage Bravo and production by Nastay Traxxx, Krazyfingaz, and Strada. Me and Artic go back a minute, me, him and Bex had a song back in the day and all of us are still on our daily grind! Me and Artic have a song on the mixtape "Short & Sweet" produced by Nastay Traxxx. Dude is def talented and stays repping ya dig!

??? I AM PUZZLED???

When did local artist mixtapes start costing 10 friggen bucks. Dudes have gotten super bold these days. Actual albums come out and are $10 the first week they come out. Why in the crap would I pay $10 for your mixtape. Especially if it has horrible cover art and only 10 songs, one of which someone actually likes and 3 of them are already on your Myspace page for free...I don't get it. Then...then, they have the nerve to look at you like your not supporting them...support yourself hippie. I'm all for music, I love it, but at some point you gotta give me a break. But if you can get people to do it by all means do, I'm just saying don't come my way with that homie.
