Why So Serious??

Because you just made 300 mill in 10 days....damn! With that said, I'm sure much of that was b/c people wanted to see the last performance of Heath Ledger. And what a performance it was. The entire movie was spectacular. The cast all played their roles brilliantly. Sure the movie was long, but there was never a slow point. From start to finish it was a fantastic story. The new versions of Batman are great. They actually make Gotham feel like a real city, instead of a movie set. These movies feel real, instead of the cartoonish feel of Batman & Robin and Batman Forever took on. Christian Bale is (too me) the best (young) Batman. The Joker is menacing, entertaining, and amazing. This time around, 2 Face was much better than the cartoon character that Tommy Lee Jones played. Could do without Maggie Gyllenhall completely, just not my swag. Hoping they do the Riddler next!...the right way.

No Music Issue

Last week the City Paper had its annual "Big Music Issue." Which to me was a joke. There was really not much in it at all. So last week I blogged about how the advertisers are probably upset at the issue's lack of....well..music, and in this week's issue there is one letter from a advertiser and Club owner. I am sure that he isn't the only person that wrote a letter of disappointment towards that issues lack of substance. And sure I could have made the letter bigger but go get a paper...its free!

K-Swift 1978-2008

The Baltimore Music scene, family and friends have suffered a great loss this week. Club Queen DJ K-Swift died early Monday morning, July 21st of a swimming accident. When I received the news like others I was in disbelief. I was hoping that it was a bad rumor, that the facts were wrong, and it was a mix up, but sadly it became more and more apparent that the news was true. K-Swift was a pioneer and a role model. She was a door opener and a business woman. She gave upcoming DJ's a great picture of a homegrown, successful DJ. She was a talented DJ world wide and now she is a legend.

Lame Music Issue

It's Wednesday so of course I grab my City Paper...but no no no...this isn't any regular Wednesday its the Big Music Issue!!! Woohoowaitwait wait wait.....this sucks! This is the size of a regular issue. There is only one article of interest and thats by the homie Al Shipley. Where are the new artists? where is the new music? where are the CD's I should look for if I like a certain genre? who's the best MC? best rock band? who has the best live show? There were only 2 articles in the paper that I really remember...Al's and another on Bachata a style of Latin music. I really flipped through the whole paper getting to the end in disbelief. This is it?!? Really this is what they have been advertising since March?! And speaking of the ads....how about the people...the poor poor people that paid hundreds of dollars for their AD's to be in this issue knowing that people would read this issue over and over flipping thru it for at least 4 days. Not even, I barely got thru the damn thing. I'm not sure what's going on over there but I'm sure lots of people aren't happy.

Old Folks...Worst Week Ever

Old people are having the WORST WEEK EVER...for me.

1st this old lady started work this week outta nowhere...she is feisty too...but she's cool. But how bout hire some young hot chicks huh...thanks.

2nd... this old drunk dude walks up to me and asks,"can i talk to you."
A) Ayooooooo
B) Gimmie A Break..I'm not giving you change.
C) I'm kinda in a hurry brah...

"I say not really," and I keep on stepping. Dude goes off...he's like "not really?" "not really?" "you getting smart?" blah blah blah drunken rant.

If somebody saw me talking to a drunken fool am I no more than he. He is not family or friend, just some old drunk dude, no knowledge to gain, only time to lose...keep on moving.

The 3rd one I can't seem to remember but it was one....a good one too. Ah well.

Mamma Mia

1st your thinking why is DRAG writing about Mamma Mia. Honestly, I am too kinda. I'm not really from that world where I am well versed in musicals, and I'm pretty glad about that. From my understanding Mamma Mia is about a daughter that wants to know who her father is. Her mother doesn't know for sure, but has 3 candidates. All of this goes on the the theme of ABBA's greatest hits. This is one of the most anticipated musicals of the year. Ok cool.
Now lets flip it and make the cast all black. How many protests and Jesse Sharpton (yes Jesse Sharpton...they should have surgery to merge into one person.) speeches would we have to sit through. Jesse would wanna cut the director's nuts off. The NAACP would call it buffoonery, Oprah would frown upon the open promiscuity of the character, and claim that its an attack on the perception of black women. And it would probably still do half decent at the box office. But look at all it had to go through.
That said to say this. Black people put all this extra pressure on ourselves, we scrutinize US. WE make a big deal of things that other people probably aren't even paying attention too. Or at least they weren't...until we point it out and make a big deal of it. Enjoy.

That's a spicy meatball

My Friend Jim

Last week during "Game Week," I posted about Kongregate.com. So the CEO of Kongregate, Jim Greer checked it out and commented on the blog, my myspace and digs the music, and I thought that was very cool of him. We are officially friends.

Black Super Man

Finally its a black superhero movie that people can actually sit through. Through a conversation with Ms. Belton, she said that she was not really moved to see "Hancock" and used the examples of "BlankMan" as why she shouldn't. BlankMan came out 14 yrs ago and was more of a comedy than a viable superhero film. Also, Meteor Man which came out in 1993 which was a more serious film but Hollywood was not truly behind it, and the climate of Hollywood was much different. Not to say that Hancock is a role model or is an upstanding citizen with great morals, but imagine if you were a superhero. At least Hancock has real dude problems. Cause i'm sure saving people at 4am isn't the most fun thing in the world. Getting shot at constantly, no pay, always being scrutinized for your actions...etc. The movie which made 107 million in 4 days also got bad reviews. Sure some things could have been explained further, and at times it made no sense....but does X-Men make sense...no....Spider-Man ...no....SuperMan....hell no. Hopefully this will open the door for more good black super hero movies. Black Panther?? Luke Cage hopefully thats good..too bad its got something to do with prison....ahh well. Its a step I guess. Please don't make a Storm movie...ever.

Thus Ending Game Week

The Best game site (to me) is Kongregate.com. It has thousands of games, has a game of the week feature every week, lets you earn badges and points, and has an online card game (whenever it's finished). The game of the week features new badges and cards upon completion of certain tasks. It has online chat, shows the top scores of the game you are currently playing, lets you learn about new games and gives you incentive to play old games to receive the badges and points.

Shuffle Up and Deal!

Pokerstars.net is where you can find me. Texas Hold 'Em is ill. I wish they were tournaments here that I knew about. Its just fun. Not as fun as playing with real people but you get the idea. Fulltiltpoker.com has the same premise but I don't like the layout of the site at all.

Play On Playa!

King.com is good for old people who wanna play games. The games are ok...the usual stuff you see, but they offer rewards like online chat and create an avatar for collecting stars from the games...pretty lame I know.

Mini-Clip.com is a great site that offers many genres of games in a wide variety. All of their games are pretty good and they don;t have many crappy flash games like some sites...their games are pretty high quality and it is easy to maneuver on the site.

Armorgames.com is a good site too, you just have to weed out all the lame games and find the ones worth playing.

Retro!!

Nintendo 8 lets you play NES games with ease. They have a wide variety of original Nintendo titles and are easily playable with the "Z" and "X" buttons and the arrow keys. The only real downside is that you end up playing the game backward because the controls are switched, but its still a good time had.

Everyvideogame.com is just about the same deal, though its a bit more tedious to navigate through the site. They have many old Nintendo titles and the controls are just about the same as
Nintendo 8's.
